NESA by Makers: Communications for a surging industry

The technology industry had started garnering global attention in Nigeria with success stories like Andela and a creative hub, CChub, shaping the ecosystem narrative for the continent. I foremostly joined the space with the NESA by Makers team as a Communications Manager, alongside many other responsibilities.

In this role, I wore multiple hats that were central to the growth and public presence of the startup. I served simultaneously as communications manager, community manager, customer success lead, and marketing lead, ensuring alignment across messaging, audience engagement, and brand strategy.

Managing internal and external communications as well as editorial and operational calendars, I created structure and consistency in a fast-paced startup environment. I led the development of comprehensive public relations materials, including press releases, flyers, video and audio content, and published news pieces, all designed to strengthen brand visibility and credibility. Also garnered some rookie skills in graphic design.

In addition, I oversaw relationships with media outlets and external partners, building strategic collaborations that expanded reach, supported business objectives, and reinforced the organization’s voice across multiple platforms.

Through this work, I helped position the startup as a trusted and responsive presence within its industry while supporting sustainable audience and community growth.

My takeaway was attaining community-building skills through digital communications, partnerships and digital marketing.
