I directed a three-person team on a quantitative data project for Hell Gate NYC, transforming raw audience data into actionable strategies for content and marketing. Our mission was simple but ambitious: understand our readers, map their journey, and uncover insights that could directly shape engagement and growth.

Hell Gate NYC is a vibrant digital media platform dedicated to uncovering the stories, culture, and trends shaping New York City. From neighborhood happenings to broader cultural movements, Hell Gate NYC blends data-driven insights with compelling storytelling to connect with a diverse and engaged audience. Its mission is to provide content that is both informative and actionable, helping readers discover, understand, and engage with the city in meaningful ways.
We started by collecting and cleaning data from its website and social platforms, ensuring accuracy and consistency across disparate sources. From there, we performed deep audience mapping, identifying behavioral patterns and content affinities. The process revealed not just what readers were engaging with, but why and how they interacted, providing a blueprint for smarter content decisions.
A key deliverable was the Audience Data Diary, a dynamic framework documenting trends, growth, and engagement metrics over time. This diary went beyond charts and numbers; it translated insights into actionable recommendations for more precise audience targeting and content planning.

A large chunk of the findings cannot be disclosed but the project indeed highlighted the power of structured data storytelling: by combining team coordination, quantitative analysis, and creative insight translation, we built a tool that allowed Hell Gate NYC to make data-informed decisions, optimizing content reach and user engagement in real-time.
The team and I coined and shared our process in a journalism article on the International Journalism Network digital publication site – ijnet.org
