During the Nigerian 2018 presidential elections, I played a key role in Reuters’ national election coverage, contributing both strategic oversight and on-the-ground reporting at a critical moment in the country’s democratic process.
I served as one of the planning producers responsible for coordinating election coverage across Nigeria’s 36 states. This involved developing and executing a comprehensive editorial strategy that balanced national priorities with regional dynamics, ensuring continuous coverage throughout the electoral cycle, and enabling rapid response to breaking developments. I worked closely with editors, reporters, and a distributed network of stringers to align field reporting with Reuters’ global standards and timelines.

In addition to planning and coordination responsibilities, I was deployed on the ground in Abuja, the Federal capital and central hub for official election announcements. From this position, I covered key electoral events, monitored developments from the Independent National Electoral Commission, and supported coverage across Northern Nigeria, a region of significant political and demographic importance. My field reporting contributed to real-time updates and contextual reporting during vote counting and result declarations.

I produced multimedia content that was syndicated across a wide range of international media organizations through Reuters’ global distribution network. This included written reports, video packages, and photographic content. Several of my photographs were selected for use by major platforms, including Yahoo, and appeared in leading international publications, underscoring the reach and editorial impact of my work.
Through this role, I gathered skills in strategic editorial planning through the delivery of authoritative, timely, and widely distributed coverage of one of Nigeria’s most consequential electoral moments.
